1995-1998
Testing safety standards EN60065, UL6500, and CSA E65 at CSA in Vancouver July 1997, Ken Rutledge in the lab.
Circuitry developed:
Developed a fully balanced drive circuit for a quasi-complementary N-channel MOSFET output stage for use in a 400W stereo audio power amplifier.
Developed balanced drive circuit for a triple Darlington bi-polar output stage for use in a 5 channel Home Theater Power Amplifier. Results achieved were 150W per channel into a 4 ohm load with less than 0.03% THD from 20Hz to 20kHz , and 80A of available peak output current.
Developed signal sensing timer circuit with power relay protection against SOA violation, thermal overload, and power amplifier failure.
Developed drive circuitry for class H dual supply output stage for use in a 350W audio power amplifier for bass guitar.
Design issues involved feedback design (frequency compensation, stability, loop gain, bandwidth), circuit linearity, safe operating area (SOA), thermal design (cooling and temperature compensation), power design (power supply requirments, transformer specification, capacitor lifetime, power dissapation and efficiency), component specification, RF immunity, safety compliance (UL/CSA/CE), circuit board layout , and mechanical packaging.
